Top-ranked Lexington Downs Aiken 12-2

Lexington is 14-3 overall and 6-0 in region play.

Aiken, S.C. -- Cameron Matthews had a pair of doubles and two RBI, Nick Ciuffo drove in two runs with three hits and Cole McMillan had two hits and three RBI that helped top-ranked Lexington to a 12-2 win over Aiken in Region 5-AAAA high school baseball action at Henderson-Johnson Field on Wednesday.

Lexington, which improved to 14-3 overall and 6-0 in league action, plays host to region-foe and 8th-ranked South Aiken on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Hornets fell to 3-10 and 1-7.

Matthews had a two-run double and Ciuffo and McMillan added RBI singles that gave Lexington a 4-0 first inning lead. Zach Paquette and McMillan had run-scoring singles in the second inning that extended Lexington's lead to 6-0.

David Barboza's two-run double and an RBI grounder by McMillan stretched Lexington's advantage to 9-0 in fourth inning. Ciuffo lined an RBI single to right in the fifth and Ryan Brown added an RBI single to left in the sixth inning. Brown eventually scored on a wild pitch for the final margin.

Addy finished 2-for-2 and scored three times and Brown went 2-for-5 and scored twice.

Jordan Buster (2-1) picked up the win blanking the Hornets on two hits with four strikeouts over three innings. Russell Maddrey (0-2) suffered the loss allowing six runs on nine hits over the first three innings.
