Top-ranked Lexington Edges White Knoll, 5-3

Lexington, S.C. – Nick Ciuffo homered and drove in two runs, Dalton
Addy and Ryan Brown had two hits each and Reece Burnett pitched four solid
innings, helping top-ranked Lexington to a 5-3 win over White Knoll in Region
5-AAAA high school baseball action at Wildcats Field on Tuesday.
 
Lexington, which plays at Region 5-AAAA foe North Augusta at 7 p.m. Friday, won its seventh in a row and improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in
league play. White Knoll (3-7, 1-4) plays host to Aiken in a league game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Brown doubled leading off the bottom of the first, moved to third
on Addy's single to left and scored on Ciuffo's sacrifice fly to center for a
1-0 Lexington lead.  Chase Huffstetler led off White Knoll's third inning with a
double to left center and after a sacrifice bunt he scored on Calev Grubbs'
sacrifice fly that tied the game at 1-all.

Lexington answered in the bottom of the third inning. Addy doubled
to left with one out and Ciuffo was intentionally walked. After a wild pitch put
runners on second and third, Addy scored on a passed ball and courtesy runner
Cameron Matthews eventually scored on Zach Paquette's ground out to short for a 3-1 Wildcats' lead.

Brown's bases loaded single in the bottom of the fourth scored Cole
McMillan and extended Lexington's advantage to 4-1. Ciuffo belted a 2-1 pitch
for a solo homer to center leading off the bottom of the fifth for a 5-1
Lexington lead. White Knoll's Delvin Riley hit a two-run homer in the top of
the sixth that cut Lexington's lead to 5-3.

Burnett (2-0) picked up the win allowing a run on just two hits
with five strikeouts over the first four innings. Elliot Lance blanked the
Timberwolves over the final 1 2/3 innings for his second save of the season.
John Robert Rodgers (1-2) suffered the loss allowing five runs, four earned, on
seven hits over four innings.
