Citizen's Police Academy Seeks Applicants

The nine-week course will provide a wide array of instruction on the workings of the Lexington Police Department.

The Lexington Police Department is currently seeking applicants for its 2012 Citizen’s Police Academy.

The academy will run for nine consecutive weeks beginning March 13, on Tuesday nights between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. The classes will be held at the Lexington Police Department’s training facility with some off-site locations.

The course instruction will be administered by police department personnel. The curriculum includes an overview of police operations and organization, introduction to community oriented policing, patrol functions, criminal investigations, narcotics and many other aspects of the department.

The purpose of The Citizen’s Police Academy is to provide an opportunity for citizens to learn more about police operations and to build a stronger relationship between the community and the department, according to a LPD release.

Qualified applicants must be twenty one years of age, a resident or business owner in the town of Lexington, and successfully pass a background check to be completed by the department.

For more information or to request an application, contact Cpl. Doug Lee at 359-6260 or at 358-1504.
