Councilwoman Kathy Maness Appointed to NLC Strategic Plan Task Force

Maness will help develop a strategic plan that will be launched at a convention in November.

Lexington Town Councilwoman Kathy Maness has been appointed to the National League of Cities Strategic Plan Task Force by current NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers, who is mayor of Avondale, Arizona.

The NLC task force will formulate a short-term strategic plan that will be launched at the Congress of Cities Annual Convention this November in Seattle.

Maness served as President of NLC’s Women in Municipal Government Constituency Group from 2011-2012, being the first woman from South Carolina to hold the position.

Maness was elected to Lexington Town Council in 2004 and was re-elected in 2008. She serves as the council liaison for the town’s planning commission.

She is a 1980 graduate of Lancaster High School, earned an Associate’s from USC-Lancaster in 1982, a B.A. in Elementary Education from USC in 1983, a Masters in Early Childhood Education from USC in 1986 and was a 3rd grade teacher at Erwin Elementary School. She currently serves as Executive Director of Palmetto State Teachers Association.
