EdVenture Asks Lexington County for Help

Children's hands-on museum in Columbia planning $5 million upgrade.

A $5 million upgrade of EdVenture, the hands-on children's museum in Columbia, is being planned and Lexington County is being approached for help in funding it.

EdVenture president Catherine Horne told County Council on Tuesday the museum has raised $3 million so far, and would like to see the county pitch in, The State newspaper reports.

"(Horne) noted about a fifth of the museum’s 170,000 visitors yearly come from the county. In addition, more than 100 of the county’s teachers have taken part in training from museum staff members, which is designed to improve instruction in classrooms, she said," the paper reported.

Richland County also is being asked to pitch in.

Any future donation is only in the discussion phase. Horne didn't ask for a specific donation Tuesday, and Council members reportedly stopped short of making any promises of aid.
