Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: July 14-July 20

The artifact of the week is a broken #400 gallon jug for liquor sold by the SC Dispensary. The dispensary was a state-run monopoly on the bottling and distribution of liquor in SC that began in 1893. Although the statewide system ended in 1907, it lasted in local form in Lexington County until 1916. This jug is made of white clay with a white glaze as well. It was found on a trash pile off of Old Chapin Road in Lexington.

See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.
