Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: July 21-July 27

This week's highlighted artifact is a tool chest formerly owned by Levi (Lee) "Captain" Wilson Redd (1862-1942).  Redd, born in what is now Aiken County, worked at William Gregg's textile mill and later became superintendent of mills in Batesburg, Red Bank, and Lexington.  This tool chest contains tools that can be used in the repair of textile machinery including large monkey wrenches and features a painted scene on the underside of the lid.  Redd is buried in the cemetery of Red Bank United Methodist Church.
See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.

Also, remember to subscribe to our newsletter at: http://www.lex-co.sc.gov/departments/DeptIQ/museum/Pages/MuseumNewsletter.aspx. Check back next week for another exciting artifact!
