This week's artifact is the marble cornerstone of the Lexington County jail that was built in 1886 and torn down to make way for the current old courthouse in the late 1930s. The corner stone indicates that the Pauly Jail Building and Manufacturing Company of Missouri designed the structure while W.J. Beeland of Macon, Georgia was the builder. Socrates Sightler, John J. Derrick, and Dr. W.S. Keisler were the county commissioners at the time.
