Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: Nov. 3-Nov. 9

The highlighted artifact from the museum's collections this week is an end of a joggling board.  The end features the original blue paint and is put together using pegs and square cut nails.  The joggling board was locally made in the 19th century and came from a house on Meetze Avenue in Lexington.  Joggling boards were supposedly invented in Sumter County, SC to help a lady with rheumatism get some exercise (http://www.oldcharlestonjogglingboard.com/history.htm).  Joggling boards were owned by many Lexington County residents including William Berly and the Quattlebaum family.

See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.

Also, remember to subscribe to our newsletter at: http://www.lex-co.sc.gov/departments/DeptIQ/museum/Pages/MuseumNewsletter.aspx. Check back next week for another exciting artifact!
