Lexington County Museum's Artifact of the Week: Sept. 15-Sept. 21

This week's highlighted artifact is a love letter written in 1824 from John Wingard (1805-1845) to Sarah Effler (1810-1864).  In it, Wingard writes that his family is against them seeing each other and there are some in her family that don't like him.  He also apologizes for telling a mutual friend that he was "mad" at her but later states that his "whole love is centered" on her and that he thinks that she is the only one who can make him happy in life.  Wingard and Efflen ended up getting married in 1825.
See this artifact and more at the Lexington County Museum, located at 231 Fox Street in downtown Lexington. Visit www.lex-co.sc.gov/museum for more information.
