Lexington One Students Cast Their Votes in Mock Elections

Students voted in mock presidential elections at schools across the district in October.

While adults in America head to the polls on Nov. 6, many Lexington One learners have already experienced what it’s like to do your civic duty by voting for president.

Several Lexington One schools participated in mock elections during October. The schools used the mock elections to teach students more about the foundations of American government, such as the American electoral processprimaries and caucuses.

Students at Gilbert High, Lexington Middle, Pelion High, Pleasant Hill Elementary, Pleasant Hill Middle and Red Bank Elementary participated in various national mock elections, such as the Youth Leadership Initiative Mock Election that teaches students more about the voting process and the importance of registering to vote. Around one million students participated in the Youth Leadership Initiative Mock Election, making it the largest student-only online mock election in the nation.

Lexington Elementary EAGLE students planned a school-wide mock election to help them practice analyzing data. The data, that included students’ grade, gender and presidential vote, allowed the EAGLE students to compare the results to see if different grade levels and/or different genders voted similarly.
