It's attractive, modern looking, and in a perfect location. It has dedicated, focused educators working inside with many young men and women. Each day it's positively shaping not only the lives of those students, it's also shaping the technological future of this community and this country. This facility is attractive and impressive to view on the outside, but the real beauty of this center is what's going on behind this scene.
This facility is the Lexington Technology Center, which has become a perfect model for what Vocational Technology can do for a community when a group of skilled professionals put their talent, dedication, and passion for improving young people's lives in full gear, with strong community support.
This facility has attracted national attention and awards, and that comes as no surprise when one sees the breath of programs offered, the quality of instruction, and the dedicated men and women who teach there.
Here's just a couple of recent developments about the Technology Center:
- Lexington Technology Center has been selected as a national Technology Centers That Work (TCTW) Platinum High Achievement Center. The facility was one of only three TCTW centers to receive the 2012TCTW Platinum High Achievement Award.
- The automotive training program has received accreditation by NATEF and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). This accreditation ensures that the graduates have the necessary automotive skills to meet the technical demands of their workplace for entry-level positions.
- fashion merchandising
- law enforcement
- software programming
- agribusiness
One popular area that has attracted a lot of student interest, is the School of Engineering, Manufacturing and Industrial Technologies. The school has a mechanical and architectural design program that offers courses with hands-on AutoCAD training. Because of the sophisticated advances in AutoCAD, many students are excited to see the design possibilities.
I'm proud to be in a community that places such a high value on education and working closely with young men and women. The mentoring value of experienced professionals that provide great role models for these kids is one of the Center's top qualities, and that, in the end, may be why many future industry professionals and leaders will be produced from this great program at the Lexington Technology Center.
I'm Jim Scarbrough and I'll be doing an expanded piece on the Lexington Technology Center in the future. I encourage you to check out my other technology blog and welcome your comments there as well. You can view it at: http://pcjournal.typepad.com/blog. Have an awesome day!
