New Signals May Ease Traffic Jams

With an $80 million package of new streets and road improvements tied up because of the SCDOT and money, Lexington town leaders are hoping to install special traffic lights that could ease traffic jams.

The signals would be centered downtown where U.S. Highways 1 and 378 and S.C. 6 intersect.

“It can go a long way to easing our problems,” Mayor Randy Halfacre told The State newspaper.

If approved, the new signals -- equipped with sensors that adjust traffic flow -- could be installed by fall of 2013, the paper reported.
