Pelion 8th-Grader Heading to All-State
Sky Powell is a trumpet player at Pelion Middle School.
Pelion Middle eighth-grade trumpet player Sky Powell will represent Pelion Middle and Lexington County School District One in the South Carolina All-State Junior Band during the All-State Band Clinic on March 8–10, 2013, at Furman University.
Powell, along with other middle and high school band students from across the state, attended the audition at Lexington High on January 26. During the audition he performed seven scales, a chromatic scale on the full range of his instrument, a solo piece and two sight-reading selections.
Powell will join other middle school students from across the state for the weekend-long clinic led by Composer Quincy Hilliard from Lafayette, La.
