Report: Lexington Growth Slowing

Town's meteoric growth is cooling, but officials aren't worrying

Lexington has been one of the state's fastest growing municipalities in recent years, but that growth is rapidly slowing down to a crawl, according to this report in The State.

Part of it is economical, as businesses -- especially national chains -- gear back their expansion plans. And it's also partly due to the town's annexation philosophy, the paper reports.

The slowdown might even be a good thing, especially for area schools, the paper adds. Plus, Lexington Mayor Randy Halfacre tells the paper, "The virtual standstill is temporary…. "We’re down from warp speed,” he said. "We see nothing on the horizon that gives us any concern."
