Report: Security Lapses Alleged at Lake Murray Dam

Lawsuit against SCANA says the utility has failed to protect dam against terrorist threat.

A lawsuit is alleging that security lapses at SCANA's hydroelectric plant at the Lake Murray dam pose a significant risk to the surrounding area, The State reports.

The suit, filed in circuit court in Lexington County, is being brought by Douglas Humphrey, "an ex-security officer fired last year," the paper says.

"It alleges that SCANA and Coastal [International Security] “have failed to provide adequate security” from terrorist attacks that could breach the dam," the paper reports.

SCANA is strongly denying the charges.
