Poll: Romney Gains Ground with Uncertain SC Conservatives

Sometimes, when the right answer is tough to verbalize, you just have to admit you're unsure of the answer.

So may be the case of South Carolina's Republicans, which poll after poll continue to show are uncommitted to a GOP candidate for the primary election that is now just 30 days away.

The latest of these polls, the weekly Huffington Post/ Patch Power Outsiders poll, finds former Gov. Mitt Romney gaining ground in the Palmetto State, with recent support from Gov. Nikki Haley, as he is elsewhere in the country. Also mirroring a national trend, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has begun to slide in SC support.

Gingrich maintained his 35 percent support among South Carolina influential conservatives this week, but those polled admitted they thought less favorably of him this week than last. Romney, meanwhile, saw his support grow to 23 percent from 15 percent.

But it's the certainty (or uncertainty) of those polled that leaves the most room for change in the next month. More than half of those polled (55 percent) admit they are either unsure who they are supporting or are possible swing votes from their current favorite candidate.

Numbers like that, keep the campaigns , Rep. Michele Bachmann, Rep. Ron Paul and former Sen. Rick Santorum.
