The King and I Debuts Friday
Village Square Theatre production of the Broadway classic begins Friday.

In its third show of the season, Lexington's Village Square Theatre and the Lexington County Arts Association will present "The King and I," from Feb. 17 through March 4.
Directed by Debra Leopard, the play is a story of East versus West.
A synopsis: "It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. The King is largely considered to be a barbarian by those in the West, and he seeks Anna’s assistance in changing his image, if not his ways."
While keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.
Shows run Friday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, March 4th. The Thursday and Friday shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday shows are 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday shows are at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $15 to $19 and may be purchased online or by calling the box office at 803-359-1436.
Village Square Theatre is located just off highway 378 at 105 Caughman Road, behind Firestone Complete Auto Care in Lexington.
