The Lexington County Coroner's Office ruled Mitchell's death a suicide. He was 48.  Mitchell was one of two quarterbacks who led South Carolina to its first 10-season win in 1984 as part of the "Black Magic" Gamecocks.  He leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter. .
