Back to Back! Lady Mavs Beat Wando for 2nd Straight Girls Tennis State Title
19th win on the year and 40th straight over past two years
The Mauldin High School girls team won their second straight girls 4A state tennis championship on Saturday morning, beating Wando, 4-2. The win was the 19th straight on the year and the 40th over the past two years for the Lady Mavs, who also beat Wando last year. The match was played at Cayce Tennis Center outside Columbia.
The match turned at number three singles. Having split the first two matches, Mauldin’s Sydney Patton lost the first set and was staring at defeat but rallied to win the second set in a tiebreaker and then won the third set, 10-4.
Mauldin then took two of the remaining three matches with the clincher coming in doubles on the racquets of Alex Patton and Hayley Behal.
