In an effort to be more self sufficient and live a healthier/greener lifestyle I would like to be able to have a few hens on my property strictly for producing unfertilized eggs. I have gardens that produce fruits and vegetables and feel that hens would be a great addition. But currently I am denied this.
It all comes down to land and zoning laws. I would like to see an amendment made to zone ordinance 7:5 to exempt hens from the definition of “Livestock”. I have under 1 acre of land (2/3 of an acre) and therefore as outlined in 7:5:1 and 7:5:2 are restricted from owning hens.
I have stopped by the zoning office today. They told me that more people than myself have asked about this. I do not want to break any laws but would love to be able to provide fresh eggs from my own land.

I am curious if anyone has approached Mauldin City about this or is interested in having their own hens also?
