Crews Respond to Mauldin Apartment Fire
No injuries in small blaze at Gleneagle Apartments Saturday afternoon.
The Mauldin Fire Department responded to a blaze late Saturday afternoon at Gleneagle Apartments off West Butler Road in Mauldin. The small fire produced a lot of smoke, but thankfully no injuries to the occupants.
Two women were seen being treated at the scene for possible smoke inhalation, but were otherwise OK, a witness said.
Apparently, the fire in Apt. 712 was caused from flammable materials that had been stored too close to the unit's gas water heater and ignited, said Gleneagle Community Manager Carol Campbell.
Water heaters and gas-fired heating units are stored in small rooms located on each apartment's outside deck.
The small fire also affected the apartment deck directly above and caused smoke to seep into a handful of surrounding units. Fire crews were able to put a quick stop to the fire, limiting the amount of damage.
Campbell heaped praise on the fire department, which responded with several trucks and a rescue unit in just a matter of a few minutes after the fire was reported around 5 p.m.
"Our fire department is just remarkable," Campbell said.
