Deputies Continue Investigation Into Armed Jewelry Heist

Meantime, the owner of Paradise Jewelers who shot at the fleeing armed robbers may face charges.

Greenville Sheriff's deputies continue to search for clues following Wednesday's armed robbery of Paradise Jewelers at 1616 Woodruff Road near Butler Road. Meantime, authorities are looking into the possibility of charging the store's owner after he shot at the suspects as they fled in a getaway vehicle.

After robbers invaded the store and smashed display cases and grabbed an unspecified amount of loot, the owner chased after the robbers on foot and shot at them as they drove away.

Master Deputy Laura Campbell on Thursday said deputies have presented the case to prosecutors in the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office for possible prosecution of the store owner for firing his gun, The Greenville News reported.

The case has been presented to 13th Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins, who will decide if charges will be filed. No one was injured in the incident, however.

Meantime, investigators are trying to assemble descriptions of the men, whose faces were reportedly covered, and hope to determine if the robbers showed up on surveillance video of nearby stores, the paper reported.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at 23-Crime.
