A chemical leaking from the back of a tractor trailer has slowed traffic at Mauldin's main intersection.
At approximately 5:45 Monday evening a Mauldin Police officer noticed a blue liquid leaking from the back of a tractor-trailer that was traveling north on U.S. 276/Main Street. The officer then directed the driver of the truck, who was unaware of the leak, to bring the vehicle to a stop behind at 112 W. Butler Road.
When emergency crews arrived at the tractor-trailer, they quickly stopped the liquid from leaking out of a 55-gallon drum that was stored inside the truck. The liquid was later identified as Adhesin (for more about Adhesin click here).
Mauldin Fire Chief Russell Sapp said the liquid leaked out on to West Butler Road and Main Street, limiting traffic on both of the roads to one lane.
Sapp said the chemical is water soluble and presented no danger to the public. Sapp added that clean-up efforts will last most of the night and have the potential to disrupt morning rush hour traffic.
Any vehicle that may have got the chemical on their car is urged to contact the Mauldin Fire Department ort Police Department for instructions on how to have it removed.
