Fant Fails to Qualify for SC Senate 7 Ballot
Bid to become petition candidate fails for lack of signatures.

, who was among , has reportedly failed in his bid to become a petition candidate in the fall election for the S.C. Senate 7 seat.
Fant will not be verified for the Nov. 6 general election by the state Election Commission, according to this report by the Greenville News (subscription required).
Fant needed 2,690 signatures, "but when elections officials found 158 signatures were not valid — from people who weren’t registered voters or who didn’t live in his district — they stopped counting because the remaining ballots wouldn’t have given him the total he needed even if they were all good," the paper reported.
The senate district in the Mauldin area is comprised mostly of the town to the east of Main Street/Route 276. By law, Fant was required to gather the signatures of at least 5 percent of the registered voters in the district.
The Nov. 6 race for the traditionally Democratically held seat, currently held by the retiring Ralph Anderson, will be between Democrat Karl Allen of Greenville and of Mauldin.
