Finally! I-385 Work Nearly Complete

SCDOT will shift northbound lanes into their final configuration tonight.

On Saturday evening, SCDOT is warning motorists it will shift the northbound lanes of Interstate 385 into their final and permanent configuration from mile markers 30-35.

This major lane shift, one of several that motorists have had to endure, signals the coming end of the massive widening project, due to be complete this fall.

Motorists may experience delays as they facilitate through the final configuration. Once the lane switches have been complete, all lanes will be open with the following exceptions:

β€” There will still be two lanes for the southbound traffic on the new southbound concrete pavement.

β€” The construction areas will continue to be marked with construction traffic cones and signs.

β€” Crews will post signage as necessary at the time of the switch.Β

β€” The shift will only take one evening to transition from the current alignment to the final configuration alignment.

β€”All southbound and northbound exits will be accessible and the switch will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Β
Drivers traveling through the construction zone are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area. The public is also asked to obey traffic control signs, reductions in speed limit and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.
Β
The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the fall of 2012, is to improve safety and will help traffic flow more efficiently along this critical economic corridor in and out of Greenville, especially before and after school and work hours.
