GHS Family YMCA to Receive $125,000 Check

Money from Greenville Water Commision is part of its sponsorship of the Y's children's pool and splash park.

Greenville Water Commision, which has pledged $125,000 to sponsor the GHS Family YMCA Children’s Pool and Splash Park, will present a check to the YMCA at a poolside event on Tuesday, July 17.

The event will run from 2:30 to 3 p.m. The GHS Family YMCA is located at 550 Brookwood Point Place, Simpsonville, SC 29681. The Y welcomes the community to enjoy lemonade and watermelon slices in celebration.

Greenville Water is supporting the Y to educate the community about water resources and to provide a safe environment for members to relax, spend time with family, exercise, and most importantly, have access to life-saving swim lessons.

“The Greenville Water Commission is proud to support the GHS YMCA Pool and Splash Park.  It is an opportunity to enrich our community and make it a great place to live and work for our customers and associates,” explained Greenville Water CEO David Bereskin. “Water sustains life, but it can also be dangerous. This partnership allows us to support programs that educate our customers about water safety and provide life-saving swim lessons.”

In 2011, the GHS Family YMCA opened its 25-yard outdoor pool for members and program participants in the Golden Strip area.

“Greenville Water has always been a supporter of YMCA aquatics programs by providing our facilities with clean, safe water,” said Jennifer Rackley, Executive Director of GHS Family Y. “And with the gift of their sponsorship of the Children’s Pool and Splash Park, we are able to provide a fun and safe place for our youngest swimmers to get acquainted with aquatics.”

Swimming lessons are a vital program that teaches safety in and around water. The Greenville Y has taught about 2,000 people how to swim and be safe in the water in the last year. With the help from Greenville Water, the YMCA hires professional aquatic teachers to ensure every child learns proper swimming techniques.
