Mauldin Back-to-School Notes

Here are some news and notes for parents of Mauldin elementary and high school students.



— The First Day Celebration will be held from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.

— New Family Orientation will be from 2-2:30 p.m. in the school's media center. All registered students will receive a free school T-shirt. The PTA will sell pizza in the cafeteria. Call 864-355-3700.



— The Chick-fil-A football jamboree will kick off at 6 p.m. on Aug. 17. Tickets: $6

— School parking passes will be sold Aug. 20.

— "Meet the Mavs" for rising ninth-graders and new students and their parents will be from 6-8 p.m. on Aug. 21.

— Parents can meet teachers and follow their children's schedules during an open house at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 21.

— Volleyball starts Aug. 14. Players must have a physical to participate. For more info, check out the athletics page on the school Web site.

— The Mauldin NJROTC "Maverick Navy" will hold its annual Freshman/First Year Student Orientation Aug. 6-8 from 8:30 a.m. 2 p.m. in the unit spaces (Room D132) at the high school.  

This event is designed to introduce the student to the basics of military drill and NJROTC knowledge.

The first two days of the orientation are dedicated to basic knowledge, drill and uniforms. You are asked to bring sack lunches and drinks for these days; shorts and t-shirts are ok. The third day will consist of physical training and team games which will require that all cadets wear gym clothes.

Lunch will be provided on the third day once the games are complete.
While not mandatory for the student to be inducted into the NJROTC unit, this three day event is highly encouraged to help ensure that the student has a clear understanding of what the program is all about before school starts.
