Mauldin High Girls Tennis Advances to State Final
The Lady Mavs will face Dutch Fork on Saturday for the state AAAA championship.

Mauldin High School continued its dominance on the tennis court as its girls' team swept Irmo High 6-0 to claim the SC Class AAAA Upper State Championship on Thursday.
The Lady Mavs, two-time defending state champions, will face off against Dutch Fork High School on Saturday at noon for the state championship. Matches will be played at the Cayce Tennis Center just outside Columbia, said the Greenville News.
“We had two really big wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles (Jordan Paul and Madeline Weih),” Mauldin coach Laura Gurley told the newspaper.
In singles play, Ansley Speaks won at No. 1 for Mauldin, Sydney Patton at No. 2 and Lexi Stewart at No. 3. Mauldin’s No. 2 doubles team, Hayley Behal and Alex Patton, secured the final point.
“They’ve worked hard. They want it again,” Gurley told the newspaper. “I’ll tell them to play like they have all season. They’re very strong this year.”
With the win, the Mavs stretched their consecutive winning streak to 64 — an amazing streak that began in 2009.
Irmo came into the contest with a 17-3 season record, including 10-0 in region play.
Thursday was a banner all around for local girls' sports teams. As Mauldin was winning, The Lady Rams will face Aiken at White Knoll High School in Lexington on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the state title.
