UPDATE: Mauldin Police to Conduct First-Ever Citizens Academy

Open enrollment for the academy on the function and operations of the police department has been extended until Feb. 1.

Update: The original deadline to apply for the Citizen's Academy has been extended until Feb. 1, Chief Bryan Turner said. If you thought you had missed the original Jan. 4 deadline, you now have plenty of time to apply. How do so can be found below.

Original post: The Mauldin Police Department will host their first Citizen’s Police Academy beginning Feb. 11, Chief Bryan Turner announced Thursday. But applications for the academy are due by Friday, so act now if you want to apply.

Applications are available at the following locations: www.mauldinpolice.com, the Mauldin Police Department, and Mauldin City Hall, and must be submitted by Friday, Jan. 4.

Applications can be turned into the Mauldin Police Department at 5 East Butler Road in Mauldin, or emailed to gryan@mauldinpolice.com. Seating is limited, so have your applications turned in as soon as possible, Turner said.

The academy is a 10-week course that will meet every Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Mauldin Police Department. The class is free of charge.

Participants must be 21 years of age or older and reside in Greenville County. A criminal history check will be conducted.

The goal of the academy is to inform participants on how a police department functions and operates, Turner said. Instruction will consist of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on-training focusing on various topics such as Crime Scene Investigation, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Gangs, Drugs and Traffic Enforcement.

Academy graduates will experience an “inside look” at policing, Turner said.

For questions about the academy, please contact Sgt. Greg Ryan at (864) 289-8960 or by email at gryan@mauldinpolice.com.
