More Details Emerge in Arrest of Mauldin Public Works Director

reportedly stemmed from a job interview with a female applicant who spurned Fincher's alleged sexual advances, according to an incident report.

According to the report, a 21-year-old woman who arrived for a job interview on Aug. 23 alleged Fincher offered her alcohol and asked her for sex in exchange for a job. 

The woman alleged Fincher — who remains on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation — drank four beers and refused to unlock a gate and allow her to leave when she asked to. 

The woman eventually had to scale an eight-foot chain-link fence in order to escape, she claimed. The woman also claimed she hurt her hand in her attempt to flee.

According to a report by WYFF, witness Phillip Hagood said: “(I) called 911 and said, ‘Hey, it kinda sounds funny, but the Public Works in Mauldin is being robbed.

"I was thinking that somebody was robbing Public Works and that was the end of the story and then now all this comes out," he told the station. "You'd never know that something like this would come out of it."

After his arrest, Fincher was later released on $30,000 bond. Town officials have so far declined comment on the matter while the investigation continues. Officials have told Patch and other news outlets they also can't comment because it is considered a personnel matter.
