Note From National Federation of Republican Women Spring Board Meeting

The National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) held their Spring Board meeting in New Orleans, LA this past weekend, and Palladian View was there to cover it all (See our Facebook page).

The power of Republican Women to influence elections was made clear by the number of elected officials from Louisiana (including the Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, US Senator, Congressmen, and even state senators) who told the enthusiastic crowd pulled together from across the country that they—Republican women—were the ones most responsible for getting them elected. The officials—all of whom were male—reminded the women that the federated clubs were the first groups they contacted when it came time to organize their campaigns. 

I have attended the national board meetings since 2005 and can attest to the fact that every elected official (including the women officials who have attended) have all come to thank Republican women and to let them know they are the reason for their election. I know that my state officials in South Carolina tell us the same thing. In fact, Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) will tell you that there would be no majority Republican party in South Carolina had it not been for the women; the Republican Women built the South Carolina GOP.

Lately, the mainstream media has decried Republican women as being “voiceless,” and by extension, “powerless.” However, the message that came from the women gathered in Louisiana dispelled such dire assessments. The truth of the matter is quite the opposite, Republican women have a voice that is bigger than one elected official (a spokesman) and bigger than one controversial issue (contraception) and their voice is loud with a national presence through the NFRW, whose grassroots army of activists are over 78,000 members strong throughout the United States. The organization that began in 1938 as a way to unify Republican women and give them a national voice is today the largest women’s political organization in the country. 

Additionally, the message coming loud and clear this weekend was that these women are ready to exercise their collective voices as they spread their message of limited government, pro-family and pro-business values, a strong national defense, and a strict adherence to the US Constitution. Republican Women have always stood at the forefront of the Republican Party—they have represented the backbone, the face, and the life of the party. These women now are prepared to also be the Voice of the Party.
