Parents: Kids Not Yet Registered for School? Time to Act Now

GCS schools start back Aug. 22. Here's some basic information parents need to know, especially if their children are first-time students.

Parents, if your child is entering Greenville County Schools for the first time this year, you are encouraged to register him or her as soon as possible, before the opening day of school on Wed., Aug. 22, the district said.

To determine where your child will attend school, call 864-355-3100 or use the Find Your School section of the GCS website.

Other important information the district wants parents to know:

Children who will be five years old on or before Sept. 1 of this year must enroll in public or private kindergarten, unless the parent or legal guardian signs a waiver, the district said. Any child who will be six years old on or before Sept. 1 of this year must enroll in first grade.

To enroll a new student in kindergarten or first grade, a parent must present the following at registration:

  • State-issued birth certificate
  • A properly completed immunization certificate or religious exemption certificate
  • Proof of residence (at least 2 documents)
