Police: Woman Off Meds Assaults Grandfather
No charges filed, but woman taken into temporary protective custody after she threatened to kill herself.

An early morning commotion at a Mauldin home required police and EMS intervention after a 23-year-old woman who went off her medication assaulted her elderly grandfather, a Mauldin Police report said.
Police last week were called to a home on Gilder Creek Drive a couple hours before dawn after receiving the assault report from the woman's grandmother, the report said. The female subject told police she had struck her grandfather, whom she lives with, and threw a glass at him after he angrily confronted her about where she had been so late, the report said.
After the altercation, the woman went to her room and proceeded to cut her left arm with a knife, threatening to kill herself, the report said.

EMS and first responders had to be called to the scene to tend to the woman, with police ultimately taking her into protective custody and having her transported to the hospital, the report said.
After evaluation and treatment for her wounds, and being put back on her medication, the woman calmed down and was allowed to go back home to her grandparents, the report said. The woman's grandparents, who said they only wanted their granddaughter to get help, declined to press charges for the assault, the report said.
