Important news and notes for parents and students of Langston Charter Middle.

Excellent Rating on the State Report Card – Langston Charter Middle School received an Excellent rating on the state report card. For the third year in a row, Langston received an Excellent Absolute Rating – based upon student achievement, and an Excellent Growth Rating – awarded for growth or improvement in student scores on standardized tests. Congratulations to the Langston students, teachers, and parents!
Stevie B’s Spirit Night – Langston’s Spirit Night is Thursday, December 13 at Stevi B's Pizza on Woodruff Road. Stevie B’s will donate $1.00 for each person who mentions Langston.
Glee Club Holiday Concert – The Langston Glee Club will present a Holiday concert on Tuesday, December 18, 7:00PM – 8:00PM at Rocky Creek Baptist Church on Woodruff Rd. Admission is free and open to all. Contact Julianna Purcell at julpurcell@gmail.com with any questions.
Miracle Hill of Beans Fundraiser for Shepherd’s Gate – Langston is participating in a fundraiser to benefit Shepherd’s Gate, a Miracle Hill shelter for women and children. SC YMCA Youth In Government Conference – Langston students won many awards at the Youth in Government Conference held in Columbia, SC. Rebekah Green and Ellis Pitts’ Senate bill was signed into law; Anna McGowan and Carrington Williams’ House bill was signed into law; Johnny Jajack and Brandon Sewell won an Outstanding Bill Award; and Joie Burroughs, Charlotte Capers Snoad, Tanner Street, Asa LaBelle, and David Schmitt won Outstanding Statesman Awards. Bryonna Howard and Becca Sternberg served as a committee chairs in the House of Representatives, Asa LaBelle served as the Presiding Officer over the entire House of Representatives, and Ellis Pitts served as Presiding Officer over the entire Senate. Charlotte Capers Snoad was elected as the conference’s first Middle School Speaker of the House and will take office at next year’s conference and Serena Dobbins was elected as the conference’s first Middle School Youth Governor and will take office next school year. Langston earned a Premier Delegation Award.
Hurricane Sandy Relief Donations – Langston seventh grader, Jennings Bryson, organized a collection for Hurricane Sandy victims in New York City. Langston students and parents donated new hats, gloves, socks, and scarves for a grand total of three hundred fifty-five pieces of new items for those who desperately need them. Bryson traveled with her parents to New York City to deliver the items to the 5th Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan and the church was overwhelmed with the generosity displayed for those in need.
