School Notes: Langston Charter Middle School

What's new, and what's coming up, at Langston Charter Middle.

Internet Safety Meeting
Rick Floyd, Greenville County Schools Information Security Representative, will be at Langston on October 4 to speak to the students in their leadership classes. A parent meeting will held October 4 from 6:30 – 7:30 at the school to teach parents what they can do to protect their child from dangers on the internet. 

School Tours
Langston school tours will be offered during the month of October on Tuesdays at 8:45AM and Thursdays at 12:15PM. There will be no tour on Thursday, October 18 due to the school break. Tours begin at the school office, last about 45 minutes, and no appointment is necessary. Find more information at www.langstoncharter.org. Langston Charter Middle School Enrollment Lottery for 2013-14
Prospective parents must attend one of the two remaining Application Orientation Meetings, as part of the lottery application process: Saturday, October 13 at 4:00PM or Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00PM and submit an application before the deadline of 5:00 PM, Thursday, November 1, 2012. A lottery of all complete applications will be on November 8.  Parents of former or current students with a sibling planning to enroll for next year must complete the application process before the deadline of November 1. The application will be posted on the website – www.langstoncharter.org. Call Celanie Martin, Registrar, at 286-9700, with questions.

Book Fair
Langston’s Scholastic Book Fair is October 8-12 from 8:15am-3:15pm daily. Family night is Thursday, October 11th from 6:00pm-8:00pm.  

Non-Profit Fair
Langston will hold its 3rd annual Non-Profit Fair on Friday, October 12.  Non-profit organizations from our community are invited to come and share with students what they do and what volunteer opportunities are available. Langston students, parents, and charter high school students are invited to attend. Basketball Tryouts
Langston basketball try-outs for girls and boys teams will take place October 15 and 16 at Rocky Creek Baptist Church.  

Langston Lungs4Life Run/Walk Team
Join Langston’s Lungs4Life team, LANGSTON LOVES LISA, in honor of Langston Foundation board member, Lisa Stevens, who is a lung cancer survivor.  The 5k run/walk and 1 mile fun walk will be held Saturday, November 3.  For more information and to register, go to  www.lungs4life5k.com.
