Summer Doldrums? Program Designed to Engage Kids as New School Year Beckons
Honoring Amelia Earhart's legacy, online program explores the science behind aviation with videos, writing exercises, animations and more.

Need a way to entertain your children and engage their minds as summer vacation slides into a new school year? Well, here's one possibility to check out.
Commemorating the 75th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s disappearance, Charter Cable, Discovery Channel and Discovery Education recently launched "Summer of Flight," an online program designed to keep kids engaged throughout the remainder of summer vacation via science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities related to aviation.
"This is a great tool for parents looking to keep their children’s minds active during the summer break," said Anthony Pope, Vice President and General Manager for Charter’s operations in South Carolina.
This online destination has launched in coordination with Discovery Channel’s expedition to determine where the legendary pilot, Amelia Earhart, may have crash landed. With support from the U.S. State Department, the results of this initiative will air in an exclusive programming event on Discovery Channel this fall.
