Traffic Alert: New Lane Shift Starts in I-385 Widening Project

The new traffic pattern is set to begin Wednesday night, according to SCDOT.

Motorists will encounter a new traffic pattern on Wednesday night, weather permitting, as construction progresses on the Interstate 385 Widening Project in Mauldin-Simpsonville, the SCDOT said.

The collector road traffic from the SC 417 bridge north will be switched to the new concrete pavement. The switch is necessary for the contractor to continue paving the third 12-foot travel lane along with the 10-foot outside shoulder from the SC 417 bridge north to Butler Road.

This traffic configuration is expected to be in place until mid-August, according to SCDOT.

The I-385 Widening & Rehabilitation Project is a planned four-phase project that started December 2010, with an expected completion date of November 2012.

The project consists of widening I-385 to six lanes from north of the I-385/West Georgia Road interchange at Exit 29 to south of the I-385/Woodruff Road interchange at Exit 35, for a total widening length of 5.5 miles.

The project also includes repaving I-385 from south of Woodruff Road to south of Roper Mountain Road, Exit 37, resulting in a total project length of about 7 miles.
