Two Upstate Women Win Preliminaries in State Pageants

Mauldin's Wyatt and Clemson's Bagwell win in opening-round competitions.

Two Upstate women shone brightly Wednesday night in Columbia, winning in preliminary competitions for Miss Teen South Carolina and Miss South Carolina, according to WSPA.

Rachel Wyatt, 16, of Mauldin won Wednesday night's talent competition in the opening round of the Miss Teen South Carolina pageant. Wyatt, who performed a lyrical dance, is entered in the competition as Miss Greater Mauldin Teen.

Meanwhile, Leighann Bagwell, 19, of Clemson took top honors in the physical fitness preliminaries in the Miss South Carolina pageant. Bagwell is currently Miss Clemson 2012.

The two pageants will conclude Saturday night in Columbia.

Miss South Carolina 2012 will compete for the title of Miss America in Las Vegas in January 2013.

Miss South Carolina Teen 2012 will compete for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando, FL, in August.
