Upstate Man Enjoys One Gem of a Meal
Dinner of fried oysters from a Simpsonville restaurant yields a small treasure.

A dinner of fried oysters has yielded an unexpected treat for one Upstate man.
According to this report from WYFF, Dan Hammonds of Laurens County was sitting at home with a take-out order of oysters from Simpsonville's Silver Bay restaurant recently when he chomped down on a small pearl.
"All of a sudden I bit into something real hard and Iβm like, hey what is this?" Hammonds told the station.
While rare, coming across a pearl in a batch of oysters isn't entirely uncommon.
In fact, Hammonds isn't the only one to have ordered a meal only to chomp down on a pearl.
So, what are the odds of finding a pearl in an oyster? One in 12,000, or 0.008 percent, according to this article.
