VP Candidate Paul Ryan Coming to Greenville for Private Fundraiser

High-dollar event reportedly scheduled at home of Greenville developer later this month.

Republican VP candidate Paul Ryan will reportedly visit Greenville later this month to attend a private fundraiser at the home of Greenville developer Phil Hughes, according to a report from the Greenville News.

Spartanburg businessman Barry Wynn, finance co-chairman for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in South Carolina, told the paper the money raised would be spent in swing states, not Republican-red South Carolina.

The private event is scheduled for Oct. 26 and is expected to draw upwards of 100 people. According to the report, the admission price will be $1,000. However, those paying $5,000 will get the chance to get their picture taken with Ryan.

A select group of people giving at least $25,000 will get their own private reception with Ryan, Wynn told the paper.

“During this general election, South Carolina is considered a donor state in the sense that very little campaign money on the presidential side will be spent in South Carolina from either campaign,” Wynn, president of Colonial Trust Co. and a former chairman of the state Republican Party, told the paper. “But I think the Republican candidates are confident South Carolina can raise money for the campaign. That’s why they’ve been here.”
