• CIAA Announces Softball Week Ten Honors (theciaa.com) — Orangeburg will host the 2026 CIAA Softball Championship May 7–9, bringing conference teams and fans to town with every game streamed on the CIAA Sports Network. The league also spotlighted standout week-ten performances from Bowie State’s Aaliyah Amos and Fayetteville State’s Sydney Jackson and Madison Heath. Expect added visitors, tourism, and softball buzz around those championship dates.

• High-speed chase between SC police chief and woman left chief injured, SLED says (thestate.com) — A high-speed overnight chase that moved from Orangeburg County into Barnwell County left Springfield Police Chief Elijah Fleming injured, according to state investigators. SLED says the chief pursued an armed woman who allegedly fired into his vehicle before fleeing. A Blue Alert followed, and the suspect was later arrested in Orangeburg County as the investigation continues.
