1. OCSD, museum partnership brings African American history to life (thetandd.com) — Orangeburg County School District is expanding hands-on African American history learning through a deepening partnership with the International African American Museum in Charleston. Local teachers just spent a professional learning day at the museum to better prepare for student field experiences and in-school programs. The district covers trip costs and provides standards-aligned resources so Orangeburg students can connect classroom lessons to powerful, real-world history.
   

2. New SC State residence hall progressing as wall panels set in place (abcnews4.com subscription) — South Carolina State University in Orangeburg is moving ahead with a $50 million, 532-bed freshman residence hall, now rising as crews install massive concrete wall panels. Scheduled to open in fall 2027 near Mitchell Hall and Dawson Stadium, the project is part of $330 million in campus upgrades that promise more housing, new academic space, and improved student amenities for local and commuting Bulldogs alike.
   

3. Two Upstate men charged in theft ring targeting school buses in South Carolina and Georgia (wyff4.com) — Orangeburg County deputies played a key role in uncovering a multi-county theft ring that targeted school bus catalytic converters across South Carolina and Georgia. One suspect was charged and booked in Orangeburg County after investigators linked local bus yard thefts to a larger operation. Agencies statewide are still investigating and asking anyone with information on similar thefts to contact law enforcement or SLED.
   

4. Savannah State Set for Season Opener at SC State (wtoc.com) — South Carolina State’s football season kicks off Saturday evening at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium in Orangeburg, as the defending HBCU national champions host Savannah State. A new Savannah State head coach, an unsettled quarterback situation, and plenty of family ties to SC State add intrigue for local fans planning to attend or follow the 6 p.m. matchup.
