📰 News we're reading

• First Responder Friday: Pickens Police Department (wspa.com) — Pickens residents are getting to know their police officers in a very different way, through lighthearted comedy videos created off-duty and shared on the department’s Facebook page. Chief Randal Beach and his team say the viral sketches help humanize officers, ease job stress, and make it easier for people in Pickens to approach them with concerns or questions.

• Gun found in car at SC high school (wyff4.com) — A gun was discovered Friday morning in a student’s vehicle at Liberty High School in Pickens County, leading to the arrest of three juveniles but no disruption to classes. Officials say the weapon never entered the building and there is no ongoing threat, crediting a parent’s tip and quick coordination between school staff and the sheriff’s office for containing the situation.

• Multi-county emergency response training set to begin October 5 (wspa.com) — Expect to see more emergency crews and low-flying helicopters around Pickens County from October 5–9 as state and local teams run intensive rescue training in rugged areas like Table Rock and Sassafras Mountain. Officials say the annual drills keep crews ready for hard-to-reach emergencies and are giving advance notice so residents aren’t alarmed by the unusual activity.
