Coroner IDs Simpsonville Traffic Fatality

Teen died New Year's Eve when his car struck a tree.

A 19-year-old from Simpsonville who died New Year’s Eve after his car left the road and struck a tree has been identified as Timothy John Donegan, of 122 Circle Slope Drive, according to Greenville County Deputy Coroner Barry Wright.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the 19-year-old driver was killed around 11:21 p.m. on S.C. 146, Woodruff Road. Troopers said the man, who was driving a 2001 Nissan, was headed west on S.C. 146 when he ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, Troopers said.

He was pronounced dead at 11:30 p.m. of multiple blunt force trauma, Wright said.

It was deadly New Year's holiday in the county. In addition to Donegan, a Taylors teen was killed on New Year's Eve as well. 

According to Wright, 19-year-old Joshua Scott McIntyre, who resided on Hillbrook Road in Taylors, was killed while walking on Taylor's east side Monday night. 

McIntyre died from blunt force trauma, and was declared dead at the scene. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision. 

According to Wright, 74 people died on Greenville County roads in 2012, compared to 57 fatalities in 2011.
