Five Things to Do This Weekend

Stay close to home and be entertained this weekend right here in the Golden Strip.

This weekend is shaping up to be a full one.

Today at noon, the Simpsonvile Garden Club will sponsor a flower show, which runs until 5 p.m. The flower fest will take place at the Community Center in City Park, off East Curtis Street. For more info, call 864-288-1970.

When you're done doting on flowers, head over to The Tater Shed, also located at City Park. At 8 p.m., WSPA-TV weatherman and personality — and drummer— Jack Roper will join his classic rock group, The Weatherman Band, for a concert, which is part of the ongoing 2012 Twilight at the Tater Shed music series.

On Saturday, Simpsonville is once again the place to be as gets underway at 8:30 a.m., also at City Park, and runs until 6 p.m. In addition to music, food, and fun, the fair will feature a flower show, an art show, petting zoo, exhibitions of farm animals (including horses, goats, chickens, rabbits, and cattle), an engine and tractor show (including a downtown tractor parade), and the crowning of the 2012 South Greenville Fair Queen.

If the barnyard scene isn't how you swing, then maybe some Sinatra might fit the bill. "Simply Sinatra," featuring Steve Lippia, will be presented in two shows Saturday — at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Fountain Inn Center for the Visual and Performing Arts on 315 N. Main St. Tickets are $18 and $20. For more info, call 864-409-1050, or go to ftinnarts.org.

And on Sunday, there will be the 5K Doggie Day and 1-Mile Walk/Run, beginning at 8 a.m. at Simpsonville's Heritage Park. The event is a fundraiser for Concerned Citizens for Animals' no-kill shelter. For registration info, visit the event's Web site.
