Hillcrest Girls Topple Aiken for State Volleyball Crown
For second year in a row, the Lady Rams outlast Aiken for the state AAAA volleyball title.
The Hillcrest High Lady Rams beat Aiken Saturday to claim the state AAAA girls volleyball championship for the second consecutive year.
“We thought we could do it, if we played our game,” Hillcrest coach Lynn Avant told the Greenville News. “We struggled a little bit with the atmosphere, but we found a way to do it. We persevered, and we came out on top.”
Hillcrest (54-3) took the match 25-23, 14-25, 25-14, 25-20. It’s the second time in six years the Rams have gone back-to-back, having won state titles in 2006 and 2007 as well as 2011 and 2012.
Hillcrest also beat Aiken in the state final last season.
