Simpsonville Police Chief Seeks Solution to Wild Pesky Pigs

Chief Grounsell suggests traps for wild hogs tearing up one resident's yard.

Simpsonville Police Chief Keith Grounsell has stepped into the fore to help a city resident with her pig problem.

Pat Fowler, of 323 West Georgia Road, has said that feral pigs are tearing up her yard and frightening her. She's approached City Council and others for help. Now, according to WSPA, Chief Grounsell has stepped up and is soliciting ideas on how to rid Fowler of the porcine troublemakers.

"If they're in her yard, I'm guessing they're in a lot of others," he told the station.

The chief is hoping someone can donate a trap. If not, he has called upon the city's public works department to build one — which would also be available to anyone else with similar problems, the station reported.

Wild pigs are on the increase not only in Simpsonville, but also the state, where wildlife officials have deemed the wild critters an evasive species that need to be exterminated.

Wildlife officials suggest shooting them, though its illegal to discharge a firearm in the city — unless you're a cop. Trapping and relocating the pigs must follow very specific state regulations.
