Simpsonville Police Seize More Than $40,000 in Drug Arrest
Money seizure is the largest ever for the city, according to a news report.

A drug arrest by Simpsonville Police late last month resulted in two arrests and the seizure of more than $40,000.
That's the largest known money seizure ever by the city's cops, interim Police Chief Steve Moore told The Greenville News.
According to the report, police were called to the Quality Inn hotel at 3755 Grandview Drive on Jan. 27 after someone reported smelling marijuana. A sweep of a room there uncovered a bag of marijuana and the money in a vacuum-sealed brick.
Sterling H. Bates, 18, of Atlanta, and Shukriyyah Kamillah Bascoe, 21, of Snellville, Ga., were charged with possession with intent to deliver 2.5 pounds of marijuana within a half-mile of Hillcrest High, according to arrest warrants.
The newspaper also noted that a discrepancy between the amount of money originally counted by officers and a smaller amount eventually deposited in a bank account controlled by the department has triggered a routine internal investigation, Moore said. The $480 miscount is believed to simply be a counting error, Moore said, adding the department has since procured a bill counter.
