TROAD 5K Trail and 8K Road Runs Announced

On Saturday, Sept. 22, the Roper Mountain Science Center Association and Greenville Water will hold the Second Annual TROAD 5K Trail and 8K Road Runs.  

This event will again allow the public an opportunity to run and race on the wooded trails and pathways of the 60-acre Roper Mountain Science Center, as well as the adjacent 20-acre woodlands owned by Greenville Water.  

All proceeds from this event will go toward supporting the facilities and science education programs of the Greenville County School District at Roper Mountain Science Center. RMSC is the science education center for the District and serves the students of Greenville County, as well as other counties who come to RMSC for specific science education requirements.

The TROAD 5K Trail Run will cover 3.1 miles of rolling paved road, pathways and wooded trails on a course that challenges the veteran runner, but is a great introduction to trail running or walking in a friendly, unique environment, organizers said.  

New for this year is an 8K Road Run, held simultaneously with the 5K, going offsite in the neighborhoods and roads surrounding RMSC.  

Unique “TROADY” trophies will again be awarded this year to overall winners and age place winners. 

A $200 prize will be awarded to the School PTA that has the most students or adults submitting a paid registration by race day.  

A free Family Fun Run for younger children will immediately precede The TROAD event at the Farm at RMSC.
